mega pillow - 2026/02/06

the other day, laundry bee failed me.

"same-day wash-n-fold" my ass.

i had no pillow case; particularly tragic, given the oiliness of my hair and the fact my partner was staying over.

what does one do in that situation? reasonably, wrap their pillow in t-shirts.

but there's no joy in mere accommodations. no one desires a gildan pillowcase.

the answer is simple. make a mega pillow.

HOW TO MAKE A MEGA PILLOW:

  1. find the flat sheet that you never use and just have neatly folded under your bed, since it was cheaper to get the bedsheet set than the pillow cases, fitted sheet, and duvet cover separately
  2. place four matching pillows in the center of the flat sheet
  3. fold the two sides with less free material over the pillows
  4. then fold the other two sides over the pillows
  5. flip the pillow over so the seams do not disturb or get disturbed

you now have a mega pillow. beautifully, it will share the same ratio as that of one of the smaller pillows used to build the mega pillow. and its size will be impressive spanning an entire queen bed. somehow, it'll look cohesive and not lumpy.

you will have relatively unremarkable sleep, but will be very happy about that given the conditions that spawned it, as well as the inherent silliness of such a large pillow.

i've since dismantled my mega pillow; the mega pillow loses its joy once it becomes your every day pillow. the flat sheet is folded nicely again, and back to being hidden away under my bed.

i will patiently wait for the next time laundry bee fails me, and i will be glad that i never got around to just buying more pillow cases.
