birds, and other sounds i like - 2026/02/25
A question I'll often ask people early in my time knowing them is whether they would go blind or deaf. Most people answer deaf; I think this is objectively the "correct" answer, given how vision feels like the main way many of us interact with the world. Despite believing that though, I think there's no world where I would pick deafness over blindness. While it may be easier to function with vision, if I put my hand on my heart, I know that there's no way I'm not killing myself if I wasn't able to hear the world. I get queasy just thinking of a life where I couldn't hear the sound of the wind, of my partner's voice, of the water at the beach, of music!! Gah! Even if life was harder, I feel that sound would animate my world so much more than vision alone could ever do.
Today, I wanted to make an appreciation post of some of the sounds that I like a lot:
